Free gift

Oriel adds a gift product to the cart automatically when the cart total reaches an amount you choose, and removes it when the total drops below. A Shopify discount makes it free.

1. Create the gift product

1. In Products, create the gift, for example Travel-size serum, at its normal price.
2. Give it stock (or untick Track quantity).
3. Keep it active and available on the Online Store sales channel. Products that aren't on the Online Store can't be added to the cart. You don't have to put it in any collection.

2. Add the Free gift block

1. Theme editor → Cart drawer → Add block → Free gift.
2. Gift product: pick the product.
3. Cart total needed: for example 100, in your store's main currency.
4. Customers can remove the gift:
   • On: the gift has a remove button. If a shopper removes it, it stays out for the rest of their visit.
   • Off: no remove button, and the gift is added back while the cart qualifies.
5. Show a message (optional): a line like "Spend $100 to get a free travel-size serum". It hides itself when the rewards bar already has a step at the same amount, so the gift isn't announced twice.

The gift block works in the drawer and on the cart page.

3. Create the discount

Discounts → Create discount → Buy X get Y:

Leave the gift out of "Customer buys"

If the gift counts toward the $100, a shopper at $95 plus a $10 gift would qualify only because of the gift. An easy way: create an automatic collection that excludes the gift (for example Product type is not Gift) and use it in "Customer buys".

Test it

1. Add products until the cart passes the amount: the gift appears at $0.00 (Shopify shows the discount in the cart).
2. Remove a product so you drop below: the gift disappears.
3. Go to checkout: the gift is listed as free.
