Install the theme

You'll upload Oriel to your store, try it out safely, and then publish it. Your current theme keeps working until you click Publish.

1. Download the theme file

After your purchase you receive an email with a download link to oriel-x.x.x.zip (the numbers are the version).

Don't unzip it

Shopify needs the .zip file exactly as you downloaded it. Some computers unzip downloads automatically. If you only see a folder, re-download the file or compress the folder again.

2. Upload it to Shopify

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes.
  2. Scroll to Theme library and click Add theme → Upload zip file.
  3. Choose oriel-x.x.x.zip and click Upload file.

After a minute, Oriel appears in your theme library.

3. Preview and customize

Click Customize next to Oriel. This opens the theme editor on a copy that your customers can't see yet, so take your time. Changes are saved, but not visible to customers until you publish.

To share a preview with someone, click ⋯ → Share preview in the theme library.

4. Add your license key

In the theme editor, open Theme settings → License and paste the key from your purchase email. More about licenses.

5. Publish

When you're happy, go back to Online Store → Themes, click ⋯ next to Oriel and choose Publish. Your previous theme stays in the library, so you can switch back at any time.

Updating to a new version

Shopify doesn't update uploaded themes automatically. When a new version of Oriel comes out:

  1. Upload the new .zip the same way (it's added next to your current one).
  2. Your settings, sections and texts don't move over by themselves. Copy them across in the theme editor, or ask support for help moving them.
  3. Preview the new version, then publish it.

Keep notes as you customize

Write down the changes you make outside the theme editor (apps, code edits). It makes updating much faster.
