Rewards bar
A progress bar in the cart that tells shoppers how much more to spend: "You're $12.00 away from Free shipping". Use one step for a simple free shipping bar, or up to three for a rewards ladder (free shipping → 10% off → free gift).
1. Add the bar
- Open the theme editor and click Cart drawer in the left sidebar.
- Add block → Rewards progress bar.
- For each step (Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3), set:
- Cart total needed: in your store's main currency. Set it to
0to hide a step. - Reward: the name shown to shoppers, for example Free shipping.
- Icon: an icon name, for example
truck,percentorgift.
- Cart total needed: in your store's main currency. Set it to
- Edit the messages if you like. In Progress message,
[amount]becomes the amount left and[reward]the next reward.
To show it on the cart page too, add the same block to the Cart page template.
2. Create the discount behind each step
The bar only shows progress. Create one Shopify discount per step in Discounts → Create discount:
| Reward | Discount type | Settings |
|---|---|---|
| Free shipping at $50 | Free shipping | Method: Automatic discount. Minimum purchase requirements: Minimum purchase amount $50. |
| 10% off at $75 | Amount off order | Method: Automatic discount. Value: 10%. Minimum purchase amount: $75. |
| Free gift at $100 | Buy X get Y | See Free gift. |
Free shipping without a discount
Instead of a discount you can add a free rate in Settings → Shipping and delivery: edit a shipping rate, add a condition Based on order price, minimum $50, price $0. Either way works; pick one, not both.
How the bar counts
The bar uses the cart total after product discounts and before order discounts, which is the amount Shopify checks for "minimum purchase amount". A free gift or add-on (shipping protection) in the cart doesn't count.
For shoppers paying in another currency, the amounts are converted automatically using Shopify's exchange rate.
Keep the numbers in sync
If you change $50 in Shopify, change it in the bar too. A bar that says "Free shipping unlocked" when checkout still charges shipping is the fastest way to lose a customer's trust.
